Title
Use a concise and descriptive title that accurately reflects the content of the proposal.
Background context and significance
This section should explain the background and context of the proposed research work,
indicating the main contribution to knowledge you wish to make.
Aims and objectives
Include a clear and specific research aim and objectives that show what you want to
achieve. A research aim is an intention or aspiration for your research: what you hope to
accomplish, in broad terms, at the end of the project. A research objective is a specific goal
or a step on the way to meeting your research aims. Objectives use specific statements that
define measurable or tangible outcomes.

Literature review
This section reviews the scholarly literature that should outline the most important research
and/or creative work already carried out in your research area. Identify the gap in the
existing literature and end the section with possible research questions that will contribute
to building new knowledge in this area.
Research methodology / Research design
Provide a detailed research methodology that includes the theoretical frameworks, broad
methodology (e.g., ethnography, history, hermeneutics and interpretation, design thinking,
etc.), data gathering and data analysis methods, and ethical considerations.
Resources required
UTS will provide a desk and computer (desktop or laptop), regular office resources such as a
printer, and bibliographic and other databases through the university library. Indicate if you
need additional resources here.
Research plan and timeline
This section should summarise the steps and approximate timing within a six-monthly
schedule over the years of candidature for your degree.

This section should explain how the intended research fits with UTS research priorities. Talk
to your potential supervisors for this section. You might also revisit the FASS Research
Groups to consider how your project connects with different themes and strengths in FASS
research.
