FK- “ As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, it is crucial for the continuation of personal development. Competency in personal development of a nurse encompasses an individual who is resilient, agile, and capable of adapting to change (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, n.d.). It is important to not stay stagnant and continue to challenge oneself to ensure personal development is ongoing. Nurses can lose confidence in a new setting if they are unprepared, but they must acknowledge their own personal vulnerability to successfully move forward in their careers (Association, 2021). My comprehensive plan for continued personal development is to continue to challenge myself in whatever I do and always reach outside of my comfort zone. Nursing is a career that is always changing, and it is up to the healthcare professional to stay current and educated.
Professional development of a nurse embodies their professional responsibility for lifelong learning and ongoing self-reflection (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, n.d.). I will push myself to go back to school and further advance my career until I am content with my profession. However, I will always continue to adapt and learn new things along the way. At a point in my career, I would like to become a mentor to other nurses around me. When mentoring others, the nurse develops a self-perception of internal and external confidence and allows others to recognize the nurse’s competence in performing their professional role (Association, 2021). Enhancing one’s confidence is a crucial aspect in the professional development of a nurse.
Leadership development in nursing is essential for delivering high-quality patient care and creating positive change. Nurses are natural leaders, not only to their peers, but also their patients. They must lead by example, establish best practice, and promote health and wellness. My plan for continuing my leadership development is to pursue a management role during my career. Once I accomplish professional development and feel fulfilled with my career path, I will seek a career in administration. A role in management and administration requires enhanced leadership skills that exemplify collaboration, resource utilization, and professionalism. The personal, professional, and leadership development of a nurse supports lifelong learning and the development of nursing expertise.”
