CRMJ 3000 Research Methods
Assignment #5 – APA Reference List
1. In this assignment, students compile a preliminary reference list to help provide background information on your topic for your research proposal.
2. You should locate 10-15 recent and diverse sources from the list below. At this point, these are sources you plan to use in your research proposal. While most of your sources will likely be scholarly journal articles, try to have one source from each of the other categories below. In general, popular sources and websites should be avoided as source references, however, if the site contains a government report or credible news article, the report or article may be used.
Acceptable sources include RECENT:
• Scholarly journal articles (at least 5)
• Government reports
• Academic books
• Reliable news media source articles
3. After locating your sources using the links posted in the TSU Library’s Criminal Justice Research Guide (see Content tab in eLearn for this week), save them on your computer or print the documents you plan to use as sources. As part of your grade for this assignment, you will be asked to show a sample of your research by uploading 5 of the scholarly journal articles you found.
4. The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th ed. (2020) is the style manual used in criminology and criminal justice. Locate 10-15 sources for your research proposal topic and then place them in a reference list in APA style. Review the APA study guide you downloaded from last week if you need assistance.
5. Place the sources you collect in APA style on a Reference List (see the Content tab for an example) and upload your APA reference list to the appropriate dropbox. Then, upload only 5 of the scholarly journal articles you located on your topic (that are included in your reference list) in the appropriate dropbox. Please upload the pdf version of each one of the scholarly journal articles.
6. Insert your name and topic and label the first page in bold References centered near the top of the page (do NOT use quotation marks for the title). All text in the reference list should be double-spaced with Times New Roman or Calibri 12-point font. Pages must be numbered. Upload that Microsoft Word file of your references to eLearn according to the acceptance period on the syllabus.
7. See the sample upload files in the Content tab.
